Google Launches Similar Images facility

Way back in April, Google relaunched Google Labs, the place where the company tests its new and experimental features. When it relaunched, it added a very interesting experimental feature to Google Image Search: Similar Images.

A recap if you don’t remember similar images: it utilizes image recognition technology to help filter search results. If you find an action shot of soccer/football star David Beckham and want to find more like it, for example, you can use Similar Images to filter your results and find similar images.

Nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile is a success

prithvi-2-armyIndia Monday successfully test fired the nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Prithvi-II missile twice from a test range in Orissa, officials said.

The missiles were fired from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur in Balasore district, some 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar -- first at 10.28 a.m. and then again five minutes later at 10.33 a.m.

The tests were described as part of an "user trial".

NASA spacecraft crashes into the moon

nasa_space_explorationOn Friday morning, NASA successfully rammed the LCROSS satellite and its booster rocket into a crater near the south pole of the moon in an attempt to search for hidden pockets of ice.

The Centaur booster rocket hit the Cabeus crater at 4:31 a.m. PT and the LCROSS satellite followed at 4:36 a.m. PT.
