The system known as “Jaguar” and powered with the AMD was release by the TOP500 organization. The updated Cray XT5 is equipped  with six-core AMD Opteron processors. They deliver 2.3 petaflops theoretical peak performance and 1.75 petaflops performance on the Linpack base.

According to John Frueheh, due to AMD CPUs and ATI GPUs that area installed in supercomputing systems, it gives a possibility for the company to reach a “strong presence” in the HPC arena

AMD is considered to be a leader in supercomputing. Moreover, four of the top five systems are powered with AMD that is responsible for record-setting performance such system as Cray XT5 called Kraken.

Due to ultra high performance heterogeneous systems will always take up a leading position in the market. It has such systems as the Tianhe-1 in China that includes 120 AMD RV770 GPUs and reaches performance levels of 563.1 teraflops/s.

Also it became known that AMD is thinking to release a line of 8- and 12-core x86 processors during the months of 2010.

The processors known as “Magny-Cours,” will be able to have 100% increment in compute core density and multi-threading capability, Furthermore, it will have DDR-3 memory that will include four channels and modern power management as well as virtualization features.

AMD is planning to debut its “Bulldozer” processor architecture in 2011.
