Megapixels , optical and digital zoom and memory are important aspects of a digital camera. Unless you are aware of this, you may buy a camera that may fall short of expectations later.

Megapixels: The most significant feature of any camera is its number of megapixels.One million pixels, a unit of measurement of image, certainly determines the quality of your photograph. Choose a low megapixel camera and your picture image will suffer. And on the other hand a higher megapixel camera may cost you a bit more. So here is an approximation of the megapixels you should consider while purchasing your camera-

1. For parties, family picture and e-mail look ,go for 3-4 megapixel camera.

2. For large size pictures or for blowups consider one with 5-7 megapixels.

3. And for professional and special pictures consider a camera that provides 7-megapixels or more.

Optical and digital zoom: optical zoom is more important than digital zoom if we consider the image quality. Cameras having 10x to 30x optical zooms and digital zooms up to 1000x.Now we know that that high digital zooms produces poor images as it simply enlarges the scale of the pictures without going to the details of the picture. The image gets blurred. So always go for a camera that have more optical zoom than digital zoom. Here are some guidelines for this-

1. For family photos or picnic and party photos 1x to 4x optical zoom is good and enough.

2. For close-up shots choose 5x or higher.

3. For nature and landscape shots consider 10x to 20x.But these features come with high end expensive cameras.

Memory: Memory of a camera corresponds to the number of images a camera can store. So always look for a set that is a well managed combination of all these above features.
